Murphy goes for a bike ride!

OK  -- so yesterday didn't go quite as planned, but that's OK. I didn't empty the orange box, but I cleaned out another box of stuff on my computer desk, which was the equivalent of the orange box. I did NOT get the customer quilt quilted, but at least it's loaded on the long arm and ready to go today. What happened instead? I had a meeting to chat about classes for the fall as I wanted to get all classes organized by the middle of July. Mission accomplished -- we had a good discussion, and I've got a plan. Cathy came and picked up the boxes of scraps -- and she got two phone books for foundation paper. I made huge...

Drink Straight from the Tap with the Best Under Sink Water Filters

Photography by Michael Wiltbank. Reading up on Domino’s shopping guides is like having your own personal product concierge. We do the tedious part—deep-dive research, hands-on testing, and tapping experts for advice—so all you have to do is hit ‘add to cart.’ That’s why we call them Simply the Best. Skip the bulky pitchers and plastic bottles: The best under-sink water filters let you reclaim your counter (and fridge) space, and leave your sink space uncluttered. Instead of attaching a not-so-cute filter onto your fancy new faucet, you can keep this secret contraption—which removes chlorine, lead, rust, microplastics, and more—neatly tucked away. Still, there are some common threads that tie them all together. First and foremost, thrillers are plot-driven films with strong elements of suspense. They usually have shades of film noir (if they're not straight-up noirs themselves) and are often violent, but crucially also contain mysteries and surprising twists that keep you hooked from beginning to end. Alfred Hitchcock was considered the "master of suspense," but that's because he was almost exclusively making thrillers, be they spy thrillers like "North by Northwest," horror thrillers like "Psycho, " or psychological thrillers like "Vertigo." More modern directors like...

I cut GTA Online loading times (2021)

[ comments ]GTA Online. Infamous for its slow loading times. Having picked up the game again to finish some of the newer heists I was shocked (/s) to discover that it still loads just as slow as the day it was released 7 years ago. It was time. Time to get to the bottom of this. First I wanted to check if someone had already solved this problem. Most of the results I found pointed towards anecdata about how the game is so sophisticated that it needs to load so long, stories on how the p2p network architecture is rubbish (not saying that it isn’t), some elaborate ways of loading into story mode and a solo session after that and...
